We’re looking for an experienced Android developer to help build an Android-first MVP for a calm, purpose-driven mobile app called Sabbath Mode. The app automatically protects one chosen day each week by silencing notifications, calls, and messages, except for a small whitelist of trusted contacts. This is not just a UI over Do Not Disturb. It’s a strict, reliable weekly system designed to work without constant user intervention or easy overrides. MVP scope (Android) -Weekly automated schedule (start/end) -Silence all notifications, calls, SMS -Allow only approved contacts (whitelist) -Emergency override (deliberate, non-trivial flow) -Simple activity log for overrides -Calm, minimal UI -Cloud sync for schedule + contacts Android is the first platform due to deeper system access. iOS and desktop will follow later if the MVP succeeds. Tech stack -Kotlin -Jetpack Compose -Android DND / Notification APIs -WorkManager / AlarmManager -Contacts API -Foreground/background services -Backend: Ktor + MongoDB -Kotlin Multiplatform (for future expansion) You must be comfortable with Android system behavior, permissions, and edge cases. What we’re looking for -Strong Android experience with shipped apps -Comfortable working close to OS-level features -Careful about reliability, edge cases, and user trust -Able to work independently with clear specs -Calm, thoughtful approach to UX (no over-engineering) Experience with DND, notifications, background execution, or device automation is a big plus. Timeline -~6 weeks for MVP -Scope and feasibility already well-defined -Not an idea-stage project Compensation: -Fixed price: $1,200 total -Payment model: Weekly, milestone-based
