Hi there, We’re looking for someone to design our dream home on acreage. We’re after a wide, single-storey home with a long frontage (spreading across the block rather than deep). We do not want an L-shaped or U-shaped design — more of a straight, well-zoned layout that feels spacious but not excessive. We are looking for a minimum internal size of approximately 450sqm+, with smart use of space rather than unnecessary bulk. We also want the home to look impressive from the front — not a standard or boxy façade. The style we’re aiming for is classic, smart, and timeless with subtle uniqueness, with architectural detail that adds interest without dating. Key requirements: 6 bedrooms total 3 ensuites (including master and guest suite) Main bathroom + powder room with shower 3-car garage Built-in robes in all bedrooms Layout & zoning: Strong, clear zoning across a long floorplan Front entry as a key feature space (wide, open, and impressive) Formal lounge positioned directly off the front entry Guest suite located near the front entry for easy access, but still private 4 bedrooms grouped together in a separate zone, including the master suite, serviced by the main bathroom One additional smaller bedroom located near the guest suite Powder room with shower positioned near the guest suite/smaller bedroom area Living & flow: Central open-plan kitchen, scullery, and laundry with seamless flow Family living area with a wood fireplace as a feature Separate toy room that is still visible from the kitchen Separate formal lounge connected to the entry Large dining room (seating 20–24) positioned near kitchen and formal lounge, but slightly set apart Bar area with space for a coffee station, positioned between the kitchen and formal lounge for entertaining and connection between spaces Design preferences: Wide hallways (no narrow corridors) Strong indoor-outdoor flow to a large entertaining area Large windows along the length of the home for natural light Pitched roof or coffered ceilings in key areas Architectural detailing throughout that adds interest and character (e.g. ceiling detail, bulkheads, window placement, feature voids or niches) while remaining timeless and not trend-driven A façade that feels architectural, balanced, and timeless (not standard project-home look) Overall, we want a home that feels well-designed, functional, and considered — “big but not excessive,” with strong flow, natural light, and a refined, classic aesthetic. We’d love to see examples of similar wide-frontage designs and your approach. Thanks, Amy
