I’m building the SimpleAccess Phone—an Android-based device that stays affordable yet adapts seamlessly to a user’s needs, whether those needs stem from visual, hearing, mobility, or other impairments. The heart of the job is software: I need a developer who can shape a highly customizable interface and create (or heavily modify) three core applications—a launcher, a phone dialer, a text-to-speech utility, and more. —so they work together as a cohesive, accessibility-first system. High customization is essential. Think adjustable font and icon sizes, color-blind friendly palettes, switch-accessible navigation, robust haptic cues, voice commands in noisy environments, and synthesized speech that can surface any on-screen information instantly. All accessibility APIs offered by recent Android versions should be leveraged, but I’m open to innovative shortcuts if they improve performance on low-cost hardware. Deliverables • SimpleAccess Launcher (APK + source) with dynamic layout scaling and one-tap accessibility settings • Custom Phone/Dialer app (APK + source) featuring large-format keypad, captioning hooks, and gesture or switch controls • Lightweight, system-wide Text-to-Speech service (APK + source) tightly integrated with the launcher and dialer • Documentation that explains how to re-compile, sideload, or bake these apps into a future ROM build, plus guidelines for adding more disability-specific modules later on If you have hands-on experience building accessible Android experiences—or have contributed to open-source variants such as LineageOS, GrapheneOS, or custom launchers—let’s talk about how you would tackle this. I’m eager to review a brief plan, estimated timeline, and any past work that showcases deep knowledge of Android accessibility services, Kotlin/Java, and UI/UX for assistive tech. It will run on a GSI with heavy customization, so if you have experience with the above, please reach out!
