PROJECT TITLE Mechanical Engineer Needed for CAD & Motion Validation – Deployable Support Surface Concept (Proof of Concept) PROJECT DESCRIPTION I am seeking a freelance mechanical engineer for a Phase 1 proof-of-concept project involving a deployable support surface system. This is an early-stage mechanical validation project, not a full product development engagement. The goal of this phase is to validate the mechanical feasibility of a translating support surface architecture and produce basic CAD modeling and motion validation. This project is intended to remain under $1,000 and is focused strictly on CAD modeling and feasibility validation. No industrial design or manufacturing optimization is required at this stage. Project Overview The concept involves a deployable horizontal support surface integrated within a base structure. The system includes: A movable support carriage A translating mechanism (linear motion) Load-bearing support arms or docking interfaces Optional actuator-driven movement The objective is to model the motion architecture and confirm that the mechanical translation system can function as intended. This is not a consumer-ready design. A simple, mechanically functional proof of concept is sufficient. Scope of Work (Phase 1 Only) The selected freelancer will: Create a CAD assembly model (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Inventor, or equivalent) Model the translating support mechanism Provide motion simulation demonstrating functionality Conduct basic load feasibility analysis (high-level, not certification-level) Provide exploded view diagrams Deliver STL or STEP files for potential prototype fabrication Provide a short engineering memo summarizing feasibility findings (1–3 pages) This is strictly a mechanical validation project. No aesthetic refinement required. No DFM required. No production sourcing required. Required Skills Mechanical Engineering background Experience designing translating motion systems Familiarity with: Linear actuators Rack and pinion systems Belt-driven systems Gantry-style motion Load-bearing structural assemblies Ability to provide motion simulation within CAD software Preferred (But Not Required) Experience with furniture mechanisms Experience designing structural frames Portfolio examples of moving assemblies Budget & Timeline Budget: $17–$25/hour Maximum: $1,000 total Estimated workload: 30–40 hours Timeline: 3–4 weeks Confidentiality An NDA will be required prior to sharing detailed documentation. This concept is currently patent pending. To Apply Please include: Examples of motion systems or mechanical assemblies you have designed Your preferred CAD platform Estimated number of hours for completion Confirmation you are comfortable working within the stated budget This is an early validation stage with potential for follow-up work in later phases depending on performance and results.
