The current site is still on Drupal 7 and carries years of content, media, users, and several custom modules we depend on every day. The task is to move everything to the most recent stable Drupal core while keeping the experience almost indistinguishable to our visitors. Page layout, visual theme, and the existing navigation/UI all need to look and behave the same once the move is complete. All data—articles, taxonomy terms, user accounts, attached files, and any other entities—must come across intact. We also have several custom modules that power key features; each of them will need to be ported, replaced, or otherwise made to work seamlessly on the new version.
