Interior Design - 32 m² Coastal Holiday Apartment Overview I'm renovating a small 32 m² apartment on the Croatian coast (2nd floor, close to the sea) and need an interior designer specialised in space maximisation to design the full interior. The apartment will be used as a second/holiday home. Floor plan and 3D renders are attached. Scope Complete interior design: furniture layout, kitchen design, wall finishes, flooring, ceiling lights, colour/material palette, and a final shopping list with approximate costs. Hard Constraints (cannot change) • Walls stay as-is — no demolition or new walls. • Plumbing stays as-is — water pipes run through walls adjacent to the bathroom, so the kitchen sink and dishwasher can only be placed in the L-shaped central section directly next to the bathroom. • Bathroom is fixed — layout, tiles, washing machine, and water heater stay in place. • Staircase — the bottom-right area contains an external staircase leading to the apartment above. The upper part of the staircase is walled off and inaccessible. I only have access to the space underneath, which tapers from 53 cm clearance at the lowest point to full ceiling height (248 cm) where the stairs end. • Electrical outlets can be relocated as needed. Key Dimensions • Total area: ~32 m² (main room 22.5 m², bedroom 5.2 m², bathroom 2.9 m², balcony 1.9 m²) • Ceiling height: 248 cm • Main room window: 117 × 100 cm (H×W) positioned 23 cm from the right wall, 81 cm from the floor • Bedroom window: 117 × 80 cm (H×W), positioned 54 cm from the right wall, 81 cm from the floor • Balcony: open Preferences General Style • Clean, bright, uncluttered aesthetic — appropriate for a coastal apartment. • Slight preference for IKEA furniture due to availability, but open to other vendors or custom-made pieces (wardrobes, shelves, kitchen elements) where they make sense. Bedroom (5.2 m²) • Must fit a 150 × 200 cm bed (140 cm width acceptable if 150 doesn't work). Conscious of space limitation, so it can be placed against the wall if required. • Storage: under-bed storage + wardrobe(s). • Barn-style sliding door (not pocket door). Main Living Area (22.5 m²) — this is the key design challenge • Kitchen: The L-shaped section next to the bathroom will house the sink and dishwasher. The remaining kitchen elements (countertop/work area, storage, fridge, small 2-ring stove, small oven) need to fit elsewhere in the main room. This is a holiday home — a compact, functional kitchen is fine. • Sofa: An extendable sofa-bed (converts to a double bed for guests). Can be L-shaped. • Dining: A space-saving solution — e.g. wall-mounted fold-down table, or a coffee table that raises/extends into a dining table. Won't be used daily. • TV • Under-staircase space: Looking for smart ideas to use this tapering area (storage, shelving etc.). Flooring & Finishes • Bathroom and balcony: tiles. • Rest of apartment: vinyl flooring. • Kitchen splash zone: water-resistant material (glass, tiles, etc.) around the sink area. • Colours and patterns for all flooring/finishes should be part of the design proposal. Balcony • Open balcony — haven't decided yet whether to replace the current door with a sliding door to save interior space. Open to the designer's recommendation. What I'd Like You to Deliver 1. 2–3 initial concept directions (mood boards / rough layouts) for discussion 2. Dimensioned furniture layout for the chosen direction 3. Material and colour palette (flooring, walls, splashback, etc.) 4. Shopping/specification list with approximate costs Process I'd like an early touchpoint to review initial concepts before committing to a final direction. Ideally: brief consultation → 2–3 draft concepts → refinement of the chosen one → final deliverables. Storage Note Please think holistically about storage needs for a holiday home: clothes for short stays, bed linens, cleaning supplies, beach/outdoor gear, pantry basics. In 32 m² every bit of storage needs to be planned intentionally.
